Website infrastructure and analytics

Our site runs on servers we operate, behind Cloudflare, which provides HTTPS encryption and network protection.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use our site: which pages are viewed, how long visits last, the type of device and browser, the website that referred you, and your approximate location (city or region), which Google estimates from your IP address. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) so it can recognize a returning browser. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We have turned off Google signals and ad personalization, so this data is not used to show you ads or linked to a Google account, and we use it only in aggregate to improve the site. Google processes it as our service provider; you can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

We do not load Meta tracking pixels or third-party behavioral advertising scripts, and we do not track your activity across other websites.

You can opt out by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser, by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by turning on Global Privacy Control (GPC). When your browser sends a GPC signal, our site does not load Google Analytics at all.

Other than the analytics cookies above, the only cookies our site uses are strictly necessary ones for checkout and fraud prevention.

Customer photo privacy and deletion rules

When creating custom pet keepsakes, you upload photographs of your companion animals. We enforce strict protocols regarding image handling:

• Order fulfillment only: Your photo is used to make the preview you see and the print file for your order. The print file goes to our print partner, Printful, which makes and ships the item.
• Automatic deletion after 30 days: Every photo, preview and print file you upload is deleted from our storage automatically 30 days after you upload it, whether or not you ordered. Printful keeps the print file attached to your order so it can make the item and, if it arrives damaged, remake it under our returns policy.
• No marketing use without written consent: We will never display your pet’s photo, custom text, or finished keepsake in marketing materials, advertisements, or social media without your prior express written consent.

Bot protection and customer communication

To ensure smooth service and protect our communication channels:

• Bot defense: When it is turned on, we use Cloudflare Turnstile on our contact and newsletter forms. Turnstile evaluates non-invasive browser signals to stop spam bots without collecting personal biometrics.
• Customer service messages: Messages sent via our contact forms or directed to [email protected] are used solely to assist you.
• Order updates and newsletters: We use Cloudflare Email Service to deliver transactional notices (such as order confirmations and carrier tracking links) and our email newsletter. The newsletter is double opt-in and includes a functional unsubscribe link in every issue. Email addresses are never rented, sold, or shared.

E-commerce processing and third-party partners

Shop Pet Direct operates its shopping cart, customer accounts, and order management on our own custom e-commerce infrastructure. To process payments and fulfill physical goods, we integrate with established service providers:

• Payment processing via Stripe: Payments are handled securely through Stripe. Your full credit card or debit card numbers are tokenized and processed directly by Stripe on their PCI-DSS Level 1 certified systems. Card data never touches or resides on our servers. Where applicable, state and local sales taxes are calculated at checkout using Stripe Tax.
• Print manufacturing by Printful: Physical keepsakes—including canvases, sherpa blankets, pillows, ornaments, sympathy cards, and mugs—are manufactured on demand by Printful. Printful receives the customer name, delivery address, phone number (if supplied for carrier notifications), and product specifications solely to print, package, and ship your items within the United States.

Retention of operational records

We retain customer records only as long as necessary to fulfill contractual agreements and meet legal compliance:

• Order records: Purchase transaction receipts and fulfillment records are retained to comply with commercial accounting standards and tax regulations.
• Customer inquiries: Correspondence submitted to customer support is retained as needed to respond to your inquiry and provide follow-up support.

State privacy rights including California (CCPA/CPRA)

Residents of California and jurisdictions with comparable consumer data privacy laws maintain specific legal protections:

• Right to know: You may request details on the personal data categories we collect, use, and disclose.
• Right to deletion: You may request the deletion of your personal data, subject to lawful recordkeeping exceptions.
• Right to correction: You may request corrections to inaccurate personal records.
• Right to opt-out: We do not sell personal data, nor do we share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not sold or shared consumer information during the preceding twelve months.
• Right to non-discrimination: Exercising your statutory privacy rights will never result in altered pricing or degraded service quality.

Children’s privacy

Shop Pet Direct is an online retail store intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from individuals under the age of 13. If we learn that personal data from a child under 13 has been submitted without verified parental permission, we will delete that data immediately.
