Our digital accessibility pledge

Shop Pet Direct believes that celebrating pets through custom gifts should be accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. We work continuously to design, develop, and maintain our online storefront, interactive photo customization tools, and customer support channels in alignment with recognized accessibility guidelines.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. These recommendations establish criteria for making web content and digital applications operable, perceivable, understandable, and robust for visitors using assistive technology.

Accessibility engineering and evaluation

To help ensure all pet lovers can browse our collections and customize gifts seamlessly, we implement several key development practices:

  • Automated quality audits: We execute routine automated accessibility scans using the axe accessibility testing engine to catch contrast issues, improper label bindings, and invalid markup.
  • Keyboard navigation: Our website layout, navigation menus, product galleries, and form inputs are engineered for full keyboard navigation without requiring a pointing device. Focus states are clearly outlined.
  • Semantic structure and landmarks: We use semantic HTML tags, ARIA attributes where appropriate, and structured heading hierarchies to allow screen reader users to jump efficiently across page sections.
  • Text contrast and readability: We test background-to-text color contrast to ensure comfortable readability for individuals with low vision or color vision deficiencies.
  • Form clarity: Order entry fields, image upload prompts, and contact forms feature visible labels, clear instructions, and helpful error messaging.

Continuous refinement

We acknowledge that certain interactive features, such as custom canvas design canvases and real-time visual previews, present unique accessibility challenges. We are actively working to enhance alternative text descriptions, screen reader announcements, and keyboard shortcuts within our preview interface.
